The situation in Spain from our perspective III

The situation in Spain from our perspective III

Due to the constant circulating of partly ambiguous and unclear information, today we would like to list the most important points.

A LOOK AT THE CURRENT PHASE 2

Source: BOE (Boletín Oficial del Estado - State Gazette)

With the exception of Barcelona and Madrid, Spain is currently in phase 2 of the de-escalation, and fortunately we can already see the gradual but certain beginning of everyday life. Meanwhile, restaurants and bars are also allowed to reopen their interior spaces, limited to 40% of normal capacity. The terraces, on the other hand, can still operate at 50% of their capacity. In Phase 3, starting on the 8th June, these values will be increased to 50% indoors and 75% outdoors.

The reopening of hotels and other tourist accommodations is also gradually progressing. The restaurant and common areas will maintain the current limit of capacity; however, all necessary accommodation services will be guaranteed at all times. For the protection of guests as well as staff, strict cleaning and disinfection rules are followed, which are laid down in the BOE.

In addition, congresses, meetings, business meetings and conferences with up to 50 people will be allowed in this phase 2. For this purpose, congress halls, conference rooms, multipurpose rooms and other similar facilities and equipment will be reopened.

The positive development of the de-escalation has also allowed the reopening of beaches, earlier than originally planned. In some regions of Spain, the number of people currently infected is minimal or zero. In the Balearic Islands, for example, there has not been a single positive case of COVID-19 in recent days. The situation is similar in the Canary Islands, with the lowest number of infected people and deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in Spain.

President Pedro Sanchez asked yesterday for the sixth and probably last extension of the state of alert, it being approved by the Parliament. As a result, the state of alert will end on the 21st June, with all restrictions on freedom of movement restored at national level.

This last extension in itself no longer has any direct impact on the de-escalation already planned, because this is where the four-phase de-escalation plan comes into play. The state of alert is mainly necessary at a legal and administrative level and guarantees the influence of the government or the individual autonomous regions with regard to the implementation of the extraordinary measures.

The transition to phase 3 is scheduled for the 8th June with most probably new information. We will keep you informed, stay tuned!

WHEN CAN WE WELCOME TOURISTS AGAIN?

President Pedro Sanchez plans to welcome foreign tourists without quarantine from the 1st July, since, according to Sanchez, they will be received under safe conditions. The conditions for their entry will be determined in the coming days. National tourism has already been given the green light as from the 22nd June.

We all know that July and August are not really relevant for our MICE industry. But it is an ideal opportunity for our service providers to further improve their newly introduced systems and protocols for hygiene management, guest management and guest experience. Together we will be able to run your events from September onwards with maximum security.

...AND MAXIMICE EVENTS GROUP?

We are continuing to work on our confirmed events for the fourth quarter of 2020 and the noticeable increase in new enquiries. Our nine offices are open and we maintain constant contact with all service providers to keep you up to date with the latest developments.
