Can we train penguins to climb trees?

Can we train penguins to climb trees?

The fact that crisis situations enhance the creativity of those who find themselves in them is nothing new. We have seen it so many times in human history and it is no different now. People's intelligence is not only defined by their IQ but by their ability to adapt, i.e. their ability to be proactive.

Many people think that creativity is a gift, there are those who have it and those who don't. But the reality is that creativity is like a muscle, the more you train it, the stronger it becomes.

Event management is one of the most stressful professions in the world and puts us constantly in front of critical situations and setbacks that need to be solved immediately, if not sooner. Event managers and organisers are some of the best problem solvers around and therefore highly creative.

All of us in the event industry must constantly train our creativity. The big question is: How do you train creativity?

Fortunately or unfortunately, there are no formulas or protocols that tell us how to train our creativity. Because each person is different and each of us has different talents, skills and strengths - holy diversity!  No matter how hard we try to train penguins to climb trees, they will never become monkeys. Everyone seeks their inspiration from different sources. For some it's nature and travel, for others it's world cultures and traditions, even our competition is a great source of inspiration. For us, all of the above are valuable sources of inspiration, but what inspires us most are undoubtedly the people!

Last week we had the great fortune to be part of a massive gathering of creative and curious minds, a congress called Fifteen Seconds Festival in Graz, Austria. We didn't know why they call it a "festival" until we experienced it. It is a festival of creativity, inspiration, motivation, innovation and growth. A meeting of restless minds that want to train their creativity. Two intense days of conferences, activities and networking that aim to inspire, connect and open (even more) the minds of the participants. The main themes of this edition were technology, AI, cryptocurrencies, new work, sustainability, security, experiential economy, mobility and corporate happiness.

The world is changing, our habits are changing and of course, our ways of working are changing. What is clear is that we must move forward and adapt to the inevitable changes, dare, take risks, step out of our comfort zone without fear of failure.

We return home with new ideas, inspirations and a great desire to put them into practice.
