Valencia, a leading sustainable destination in Europe

Date

Valencia, one of our 10 destinations in Spain with a local branch office, has been awarded with the title of “Green European Capital 2024” by the European Commission. This award recognizes the dedication in preserving the environment and life-quality of its inhabitants and visitors, highlighting the numerous green areas in Valencia (around 5 million square meters) and its green mobility, with an amazing public transport network and more than 200km of bike lanes.

Besides the economic and political benefits, it implements Valencia’s status by joining previous European Green Capital Cities, like Tallin, Stockholm, Hamburg, Lisbon, and Oslo, among others. This is the second time that a Spanish city is recognized: in 2012 Vitoria, in the Basque Country, received the same distinction.

Sustainable tourism supports the many possibilities that Valencia offers, specially in terms of MICE. With its “City of Arts and Science” Valencia has the perfect location for small meetings or big conferences, while also catering for incentives and other types of leisure corporate travel. The flat geography in combination with the Mediterranean climate, is perfect for outdoor activities, cycling along its beautiful streets and discovering the historical centre of Valencia.

All in all, the consolidation of Valencia as a sustainable destination, proves to the growing MICE sector in Spain that this Mediterranean capital has the recognition and the innovative infrastructure to continue being a benchmark destination looking into the future.
